The Theran System was a star system held by The Royal Allegiance, and arguably one of its most valuable regions.

Thousands of years after the Activation of the Rings, a series of coincidences led a ship filled with humans genetically enhanced by the Forerunners crashed on the planet Thera. The crash survivors eventually became what was known as The Royal Allegiance.

The system was littered with active Forerunner installations and facilities, a result of their previous large presence within the system. Most notable were the numerous gargantuan defensive platforms in orbit at a distance of just over 3.22 billion km from the system's star. It was manned by Therans from the Allegiance Navy and could monitor or, if necessary, open fire on any vessel on an inward or outward trajectory. Its weaponry systems were Forerunner-designed beam cannons.

Thera, the first inhabited planet in the system, became the centre of Allegiance space and the most developed planet in the known galaxy. Being the central-most Allegiance world, it was the most densely populated. Two other planets in the system were terraformed, albeit with extreme difficulty, resulting in the system being a hive of culture and life, teeming with hundreds of thousands of vessels, stations and settlements. It was thought of as the first truly conquered system as there was little space that was not within a very small distance of some artificial construct.
