The Y-624 Sparker is a UNSC military flamethrower designed for recon operations.
The Y-624 Sparker (or simply "Sparker" for short) is a lightweight, portable, and overall deadly weapon. It is fueled by the same ammunition as the M7057/Defoliant Projector which is Pyrosene-V. It's a simple to use and cheap to make weapon.
The Sparker is designed to be easier to use, faster, and more lightweight than the M7057 while still keeping the awesome firepower of the larger flamethrower. It succeeds in all these fields. It's proven in combat. It's smaller size gives the user heightened mobility and allows the user to move more swiftly. It can be taken apart and cleaned easily as well. The Sparker is also great for vehicle operation because it's small enough to allow the user to get in and out of the vehicle without causing any snag on the weapon. As a bonus, jamming the weapon is nearly impossible. One of the greatest advantages though is the longer stream of flame. If given time to spread out, it can reach up to 94 feet.
Despite the Sparker's many good qualities, it isn't perfect. The Sparker's main disadvantage is it's delicacy. The weapon is horrible to melee with, many times the weapon has reported to have been broken in combat. The light materials are the main cause of this defect. Another disadvantage is the vulnerability of the fuel tank. It's located beneath the thin foregrip and even has parts exposed. A simple shot to the gun could easily ignite the Pyrosene-V and kill the wielder along with his nearby allies. This problem is rarely encountered by the M7057 model due to it's heavier materials. Performing a melee attack with the weapon is never recommended because the weapon will most likely break on contact with the target. The Sparker also needs constant cleaning and maintenance to allow it to function at full capacity. If dirty or slightly wet, the weapon could either lose killing power, not work, or even explode and kill the wielder along with nearby allies.
- The Sparker was designed to function like the Torcher in Gears of War 2.
